The Darnina Version – Contemporary Comfort

I sew Japanese monpe trousers based on a historical 1930s pattern. The zero-waste cut, made from narrow fabric panels (about 34–36 cm wide), reflects the limitations of traditional Japanese looms and honors their original construction.

However, Darnina’s monpe come with a few modern improvements:

• Pockets – an absolute must in comfortable pants.
• Covered Side Slits – the traditional side slits are covered with an extra fabric flap, allowing for adjustable comfort and ease of movement.
• – each of the three sizes can be easily adjusted to fit your shape. The XS size can even fit a size M.
• Elegant Finishes – flat felled and French seams.

FABRIC

• 100% linen, 220 g/m², stonewashed and pre-washed after sewing to prevent shrinking after the first wash.
• Certifications: European Flax Premium Linen Fibre and Oeko‑Tex Standard 100.

Design Details

• Wide at the hips, tapered at the ankles
• Historical cut made from narrow panels and gussets
• Three size options, each with an oversized cut, easily adjustable to different body shapes

Care

• Machine wash at 40°C on a gentle cycle, without heavy spinning
• Do not bleach; do not tumble dry
• Iron according to your preference – linen wrinkles beautifully and persistently

Tip – sizes XS and S/M have slightly narrower legs.
